If I had to blame anyone for the death of Curley's wife it would I would have to say Curley's wife is responsible for her own death. Lennie physically did kill her but she had so many warning signs that Lennie might be a threat to her. For example Lennie kills mice because he pets them too hard. She refused to see the danger in speaking and flirting with Lennie. Curley's wife knew exactly what her intentions were with Lennie so she deserved what she got. Many things could have been done to save Curley's wife and Curley's wife really could have prevented her death.
One reason that she is responsible for her own death is because she didn't use common sense. For example, Curley's wife saw Lennie petting a dead puppy. Wouldn't that be a little alarming to you? Curley's wife also knew that Lennie was mentally ill. She should have been more cautious around a person like that. Lennie was also so much bigger than her and I would think that she would be a little intimidated of Lennie.
Another error Curley's wife made was being alone in the barn with Lennie. It says in the book Of Mice and Men no one knew where Curley's wife was let alone in a barn by herself with another man. Why would she want to be alone with another man when she was married to Curley? The book also states that the others didn't like the fact that she was in the barn by herself.
Curley's wife shouldn't have been flirting with Lennie period. She knew he killed many mice and a puppy from petting them too hard so why would she let him fondle her hair? She had a husband so she shouldn't have been doing that anyways. Obviously Curley's wife was a huge flirt because the other workers warned George and Lennie about her. They warned George and Lennie because they thought she was a threat of some sort.
In conclusion there is only one person responsible for Curley's wife death and that was herself. The answer is simple really. When you are dumb with your actions nothing good will come from them. In this case the answer was death. Curley's wife deserved everything that she received because she was dumb in mind and in body.
