After reading the book Of Mice and Men I wanted to know more about where John Steinbeck was coming from , meaning what what type of things influenced him to write books like Of Mice and Men , which were books with so much detail it was as if you where watching a movie in your head with all the detaills he provides us with in the books he writes. For that reason I decided to do an author study ....Oh, and it's homework too. So read on and you will find a full bibliography on John Steinbeck.
John Steibeck born here in our very own California not far from Fresno in a little town called Salinas. He was born in 1902,wich was a long time ago and died at his age of 66 in 1968. He was the son of Olive Hamilton Steinbeck a school teacher and his father was John Ernest Steinbeck. He was a County Treasurer and had three sisters. He had several wives. His first wife was Carol Henning Steinbeck Brown,who he married in 1930 and divorced 1942. They lived in Caramel Valley California. Then he remarried a year later to Gwyndolyn Conger Steinbeck, who he was with until he divorced her in 1948. Then he remarried again in 1950 to a woman named Elaine Anderson Scott Steinbeck and they lived in New York City. She was his last wife. He had two kids both boys from one of the three mothers.
John Steinbeck put alot of detail into his writing because he wrote about alot of things he knew details about. Of Mice and Men took a lot of country types of descriptions which he knew alot about because of the fact that he grew up in a farm in the country Of Selinas here in California. He went to collage at Standford University but never graduated. Then in 1925 he took off to New York City and tried to establish a name for himself as a writer but after a while of trying that didnt work out either and he returened to California.
His big break came in 1935 when he was first recognized for his book Tortillla Flat.Tortilla Flat was an entertaning book about what he called "Paisanos" or for those that don't know what that means its another word for being of the mexican race.
John Steinbeck was a unique writer because of all the detail he put in his books. For example the main book that this entire project is about Of Mice and Men was very detailed with the characters and all the scenery details. Many other books for instance Cup of Gold, Tortilla Flat, the Long Valley were the same way as well. this is why so many Americans love John Steinbeck.
